Let’s understand the lyrics in simple easy way
Definition: – Lyric is a short poem that expresses emotion through short stanza or verse it is meant to be sung.
In simple way, Lyrics are those words that make up a song or meant to be sung.
Explanation: – Lyrics lends itself to the expression of intense personal joy or pain or offers contemplating mood. Lyrics basically expresses or reflects the emotion of poets in few words, it is an eventful experience. It is an emotional response to an event or scene and the recollection of an emotion through words. Thus, the Lyric play an important part to reflect emotion or to reflective soliloquy (an act of speaking own`s thought aloud without any hearers– आत्मभाषा).
Many of the long poem in modern period have used the devices of lyricism to express the “peak moments” of the poet.
Lyrics expresses the instant emotion felt at very moment and that is why it is used in poetry. It is not limited to expressions of joy or elation (great happiness -उत्साह)
For example: lines are from Shakespeare`s sonnet 18
Shall I compare thee to a summer`s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer`s lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm`d;
And every fair from fair sometime declines
Types of Lyric:
There are several types of lyric used in poetry as below
- Elegy – शोकगीत (An elegy is a sorrowful or melancholy poem sung to express grief on someone’s death or lost)
- Sonnet – गाथा (A Sonnet is a fourteen- line lyric poem).
- Ode – स्तोत्र, कसीदा (An Ode is a lyric sung to show instance respect, love or praise)
- Dramatic monologue – नाटकिय एकालाप (A dramatic monologue is used by writer to interact with audience.
- Sestina – छ पंक्तियों की कविता (sestina is a seven- line stanza, it is like ghazal.
- Pantoum – साज- सज्जा गीत (Pantoum is a series of interwoven quatrains)
Through a lyrical poem, poets easily connect with the audience by portraying their state of mind or emotions. Hence, a lyrical poem is a way to express the personal feelings or emotions of a poet.
